Using Google Sketch-Up (a free online program) I can take any space and render a complete and accurate model including windows, doors, furniture, lighting fixtures and textiles to give you an accurate idea of what your room will look like.
Using the measurements of your room and the measurements of your existing furniture, or specifications of pieces you plan to buy, I can space plan options for you so you can rearrange or buy with confidence.
Google Sketch-Up is a free, easy to use tool that anyone can learn, but let’s face it, who has time? I do! I have used this invaluable tool to plan rooms in my own home. Here are some ways it has proven useful to me:
“How do I fit two work stations and a guest room into a space that’s 12’ x 11’?”
Before
Our home is tight on space, and the only way to accommodate guests is with a sleeper sofa. I was pretty sure I could squeeze everything I wanted into this space, but I really didn’t want to spend all day moving furniture only to find out I was wrong. I had an idea to use the existing cubby in the cabinets to make a work space. Before we moved all the heavy office furniture from our previous office upstairs, and demolished the cabinets, I really wanted to be sure that there actually was enough room to accommodate both work spaces and still be able to open up the sleeper sofa comfortably.
Here is the model showing the final configuration of the furniture, the only logical way it would fit. The door is one of three, on the back of the house and never used, so we weren’t concerned about blocking it.

Below: model showing the sleeper sofa pulled out into a Queen-size bed.
With the sleeper sofa pulled out, it is a little tight, but it works. We are able to push both chairs under their work spaces to allow enough room to walk on either side of the bed, and when it is folded up there is plenty of space. This room is now not only much more functional for us, but is an enjoyable work space which is easy to convert to a guest room when we need it.
After
“I know exactly how I want this room to look when it’s finished, but I don’t have the tools or knowledge to do the work myself. How do I accurately convey my ideas to a contractor to make sure I get what I want?”
An accurate model can effectively convey your ideas so that you and your contractor are on the same page. When our contractor bought materials for this job he was able to estimate the correct amount of lumber based on the measurements from the model. There were small changes made along the way which we discussed, but overall the finished product is almost identical to the model I printed out for him to use as his guide. We are very happy with the results.
These are just a few of the ways that a 3D model can make your home renovation or design project run smoother. If you think you may be interested in working with me, get started by sending me an e-mail expressing your interest and we can get the conversation going!
