Why chose the Bold and the Beaded products? Because I can offer you something you won’t find on every jewelry site, original, handmade pieces at an affordable price. I specialize in one of a kind designs, no piece is ever duplicated. This means that every piece you purchase is truly unique jewelry.
About Products:
The Bold and the Beaded handmade jewelry products are affordable because I do not work in precious metals or stones. My products are made from both new components and re-used/recycled components from re-purposed jewelry and found objects. Some pieces contain more expensive components from re-purposed pieces or more expensive new materials including genuine Swarovski crystals and some semi-precious stones such as fancy jasper. This will be noted and reflected in the price. Overall the pieces are very affordable in part because of the materials I use.
Fancy Jasper
This gemstone is an opaque creamy beige or gray stone with lavender, green, pink, orange or red swirls and specks. It is said to facilitate tranquility and help eliminate worry and depression. It also might bring mental clarity.
Most pieces are made with glass, clay, ceramic and sometimes plastic beads. Most of the metal components I buy are not labeled precisely on the packaging, but are most likely a less expensive metal that is gold or silver plated. These are not as durable as real gold or silver, however I have many pieces that I have made for myself over the years and they have held up quite well. I have never had any problems myself with any irritation caused by the metals, and they seem to stay true to their color over time. *Please note, while almost all products are now nickel free, I can not guarantee that all items are. If you have a nickel allergy or are particularly sensitive keep this in mind when buying.* Occasionally I do work with some semi-precious elements, this will be listed in the description and reflected in the price. I use elastic cord and fish line in some bracelets and necklaces, and have been using bead wire with crimp beads with increasing regularity, as well as various styles of chains. Some chains are new and are gold or silver plated, while some are re-purposed and may be made from real silver or gold. Care and Maintenance
*Cleaning- because there is no way to know exactly what kinds of metal are used in every piece, and because plastic beads will sometimes dull when cleaned with harsh or abrasive chemicals, I recommend that each piece be cleaned gently only with water if need be, and a soft cloth to buff off any fingerprints or dust. Earring hooks can all be cleaned with alcohol to disinfect them.
Fish Line- If you purchased a piece made with fish line, you may notice a bend or kink in the item. To fix this simply:
1) Aim a blow dryer on high heat directly at the piece for about 30 seconds.
2) Immediately use your hands to gently pull on the peice to re-shape it. Do not use too much force. Also, be very careful not to burn yourself as both the metal components and glass beads may become very hot.
3) Always keep the piece hanging up so that it will not get bent out of shape again down the road.
4) Be careful when wearing around small children, one good hard tug could snap the line.
Elastic Cord- Over time elastic can break down and may either lose its’ elasticity or weaken and break. Be careful not to “overstretch” the elastic. It takes a tremendous amount to stretch the elastic to the point of snapping, but like anything if treated well it will hold up better over time. A piece that fits properly will only need to stretch about an inch to get it on and off, and should fit comfortably once it is on. If it cuts into the skin it is too small.
Children’s Items- Some items are labeled as “children’s” jewelry. This is due to their small size. It should be noted that most of these pieces are made with elastic cord and may not hold up as well if worn on an every day basis during vigorous play. They will last much longer when worn as occasional pieces for dress up and special occasions. Due to the small size of the beads and other components, these items should also only be used by children over the age where they could pose a choking hazard, also make sure children understand not to stretch the cord to the point where it could break.
Warranty policy
While there is no specific warranty on the Bold and the Beaded products, if something needs repair and you can get the pieces back to me I will reassemble them if I am able to do so. You may contact me directly at kate@theboldandthebeaded.com for inquiries about products or questions about repairs.
